Big Nature Festival (23rd -24th May)
This nature festival takes place at Levenhall Links, Musselburgh, which is just on the edge of Edinburgh.
This exciting festival has a fun packed programme, which includes wildlife talks, walks and demos, as well as live music and plenty to eat and drink. With it being the Year of Food and Drink, there is a wonderful variety of locally sourced food and drink to try – including a farmers market!
It boasts a brilliant selection of children’s activities; such as storytelling, puppet shows, pond dipping and willow weaving. There is enough to keep children entertained throughout the weekend.
If that hasn’t swayed you enough, TV wildlife present Bill Oddie will be making an appearance. Wow!
International Film Festival (17th June – 28th June)
Taking place in Edinburgh, this International Film Festival was one of the world’s first – beginning back in 1947. It’s renowned around the globe for being responsible for discovering and promoting the best in international cinema.
Each year it generates around 44,000 admissions, with everyone eager to watch some brilliant new movies.
As well as film premiers, there are also plenty of other things to see and do, such as a chance to get up close to some of the brilliant names in cinema during special Q&A sessions.
This is a must for all you movie buffs!
Merchant City Festival (25th July – 2nd August)
The Merchant City Festival takes place in Glasgow every year. This festival is completely free, and consists of nine days filled with events such as live music, comedy, family events, tours, fashion and design and a whole lot more!
A calendar of all the events is yet to be released, but each year promises to be better than the other. It’s a vibrant and exciting celebration which was used to bring the city to life during the Commonwealth games.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to take to the streets to celebrate the Merchant City Festival this year. It’s one that is worth experiencing!
International Book Festival (15th – 31st August)
This festival is a must see for the book lovers out there! Located in Charlotte Square in the centre of Edinburgh, every year this book festival is a truly exciting celebration of the written world.
It’s the largest of its kind in the world, beginning in 1997 and growing bigger each and every year.
There is over 700 events taking place throughout the festival, such as workshops, panel discussions and performances by writers and poets.
As well as the world of books, it also hosts a number of cultural and political talks and debates. It also boasts a fantastic children’s events programme – so it’s perfect for the whole family!
