As Christmas and New Year fast approaches, many families will be looking forward to hiring one of our wonderful campervans and getting away for the holiday season.
Motorhome holidays are pretty simple, cost-effective and offer an adventure to suit the whole family! Although, as any motorhome holiday-fanatic will know; keeping the kids entertained during those long drives can be hard work, and the chiming of ‘Are we nearly there yet?’ really does become the soundtrack to your long journey.
However, if you’re planning to escape for the Christmas period, or fancy bringing in the New Year elsewhere this year – here’s our short survival guide to make sure you have everything you need to keep the kids happy, keep mum and dad happy and enjoy the festive period in your home-on-the-road.
Stock the fridge up!
Good food and good drink equals a good time, and the festive period is no different! Whether you’re planning to head out to a local establishment for your Christmas dins, or cooking-up-a-festive-storm in the comfort of your beloved van – be sure to stock up the fridge with everything you need before you leave! If you’re heading to a location you haven’t yet been before, you can’t rely on there being a shop near you, or what their Christmas opening times will be – so if needed, bring an extra stocked-up fridge full of festive treats, booze and tasty foods, just in case!
Don’t forget the power!
If you’re planning to stay on a campsite, don’t forget to bring a 230 V hook-up cable or two with you! When it comes to cables, it’s always better to get as long an extension as possible; as most hook-up points being some distance away from camping spots. By bringing the correct cables, and of course, additional power (just in case) – you’re making sure nothing goes wrong during those all important present giving moments! You’ll also be kept toasty warm and able to celebrate your Christmas day as you would do if you were at home. Lovely!
Bring plenty of home comforts!
When it comes to being away from home during the festive periods, it is so important to bring everything you think you’ll need with you, especially the children’s favourite toys, books, foods and games. These will come in especially handy during those long boring distance journeys we previously discussed.
We also highly recommend a few days before you set off, that you compile a checklist of all emergency supplies, and home necessities that you could ever imagine needing – and double check your list again before you set off! Nobody wants to be miles away from civilisation without a bottle opener on Christmas day, eh?
Other items you may need include:
- Bottles of fresh water
- Bedding and home duvets
- Cleaning products
- Rubber gloves
- Bottle and tin openers
- SatNav – seriously, don’t risk it!
- Wet weather gear
- Fairy lights, and lots of them!
