Winter camping is an excellent activity – especially if you’re in a motorhome. You get to explore the landscape of your chosen destination when it’s looking its best; nobody said just because it’s cold you HAVE to stay indoors. As providers of campervan hire in Scotland, we know that, in fact, winter time is a marvellous time to get away from it all and have a fantastic time!

Of course, camping in winter is a little different to camping in summer, so we’ve created the winter camping checklist so that you can be certain that you have everything that you need for your adventure!

A Plan & Map

Before travelling it’s always a good idea to make a plan. This will help you to make the most out of your travels and see what you want to see and do. So, get yourself a map and plan the camping trip of a life time.

Lots of Layers!

Remember to take lots of layers with you instead of one thick coat. If you’re planning on going walking, you’ll get too hot in a huge puffy jacket; instead take various pieces of clothing: jumpers, coats, jackets, t-shirts and of course waterproof jackets! This way you won’t ever be too hot or too cold when out and about. Lucky for you motorhomes are complete with heaters, so that you can keep warm even in the depths of winter.

Wellies!

Wellies are definitely a requirement for winter camping, especially if you fancy a spot of fishing! Pack warm, thick socks so that you can keep your feet warm and cosy when out and about in the fresh air – plus kids will have more fun jumping in puddles when they don’t get wet feet!

Warm Blankets & Sleeping Bags

The night can be a little chilly, but don’t be put off because of this; simply make sure that you pack lovely warm blankets or sleeping bags, this way you can cuddle up and be nice and warm even in the depths of winter. Why not bring a hot water bottle for a little extra comfort?

Comfort Food

Take comfort food with you, and in a camper van or caravan you can take all your favourites with you as you have a fridge! So whether you fancy pork pies, or beans on toast, or even a 5-course meal you can do it when you’re camping in style!

So, do you have all these things? Yes? Then you’re ready to go! Winter camping is so much fun – especially in a motorhome – so go on, get planning or get ready for your camping holiday. Good luck we hope you have an excellent journey!
